Sydney has always been a world-class tourist destination, but the global pandemic has made tourism rough the past couple of years. The city, however, is set to attract more travellers than ever before, both domestic and international, with a number of major Spring and Summer events. Events range from concerts to sporting events, and Sydney hopes it will encourage more travel this year.
Here are just a few of the upcoming events Sydney is planning.
2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup – 22 September - 1 October
This is FIBA’s premier tournament for women’s national basketball and is being held at both the Sydney SuperDome and State Sports Centre at Sydney Olympic Park.
Spring Racing Carnival – 17 September - 5 November
Sydney’s Spring Racing Carnival kicks off eight weeks of horseracing and special events. Everest Day might be the biggest race to look out for. It’s one of the world’s richest races!
National Rugby League Grand Final – 2 October
2022’s NRL Grand Final comes to Sydney’s Accor Stadium. It’s a Super Bowl type event usually held in Queensland, and will feature the Penrith Panthers against the Parramatta Eels.
Bruno Mars – 14 - 15 October
Bruno Mars is set to christen the newly refurbished Allianz Stadium with two massive shows exclusive to Sydney.
ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 – 16 October - 13 November
Australia defends its championship in this international cricket tournament and one of the biggest sporting events in the world. Sydney will host seven matches at Sydney Cricket Ground.
Sydney Super Cup – 17 – 23 November
This biannual football tournament brings Europe’s top football teams to NSW. This year features Celtic FC vs Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium, Everton FC vs Celtic FC at Accor Stadium, and Everton FC vs Western Sydney Wanderers at Commbank Stadium.
Sydney WorldPride 2023 – 17 February 2023 – 5 March 2023
Sydney is set to proudly host the WorldPride Festival in 2023. It’s described as a LGBTQIA+ Mardi Gras with parades, parties, and … Kylie Minogue headlining.
